Uncertainty

I know I’m lucky.

I want to preface this post by saying that. I’m lucky. I’m fortunate. I’m privileged in a way that a lot of people aren’t, and I’m very much aware of that.

I’m luck to be employed by a very large, successful company that affords me the means to live, that provides me with medical insurance, that pulls directly from my college degree field, and that is fairly stress free.

Most people aren’t as lucky.

But with that being said, the hours required of me at my job can be an issue, especially when you consider the path I’m on to be a professional stand-up comic. Without going into what I do, I’m the shift leader for 2nd shift in my department. Which means I work from 4pm until Midnight. And my days off happen to be in the middle of the week, when there’s little-to-nothing going on in the area. This means that my opportunities to go on stage are at an all time low.

I had a string of shows planned for August that, unfortunately, I’ve had to cancel. And at this time, I haven’t the slightest clue when I’ll be able to schedule any more in the foreseeable future.

This is my 14th year of doing stand-up, and I’ve been performing pretty consistently since last fall. I’ve had a good run of being busy, even managing to book a lot of summer shows, which almost never happens.

But as of right now, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get on stage again any time soon. Hopefully something will pan out in time for my anniversary in October, but at this point I can’t make any guarantees.

Until then, I’ll continue to be active on social media as well as devoting my extra time to podcasting and film making.

To those of you who have stuck it out with me through the thick and thin, I appreciate it. I ask that you continue to do so.

I have no plans on quitting, but I also have no plans on continuing, not for a while, anyway.

As always: live well, rock on, take care, and bye-bye.
